Reading Time: 6 minutes

Would you like to earn a great living, or even become wealthy, by sharing your knowledge and impacting other people’s lives in a positive way?

If so, you’re not alone. A lot of people would love to become a successful trainer. They see that it’s a great way to build wealth, create an amazing lifestyle, and most importantly, help other people.

But most of those who want to become trainers don’t succeed. In fact, most don’t even try. They look at successful trainers and wonder how they got to be so knowledgeable and charismatic. And they don’t think they can do it themselves.

One of the biggest reasons is because they don’t believe they have anything of value to teach. And that’s a shame because we ALL have unique insights to share with the world. But most people keep that knowledge locked inside of them, where it can’t help anyone else.
The Real Problem For People Who Don’t Think They Have Anything To Teach

Most successful trainers aren’t experts or gurus. They’re just normal people who wanted to share their knowledge.

They’re no different from you in how much they know–they just learned how to use their knowledge for extra income and impact.

It doesn’t matter how much or how little you know–you can still get rich and help people as a trainer.

So if the problem isn’t what you know, what is it?

The thing that will stop you from becoming a successful trainer– if you don’t fix it– is what you believe about what you know.

If you believe that nothing you’ve learned over the course of your life is worth sharing, you won’t teach! How could you? As far as your mind is concerned, you’d be wasting everyone’s time and probably end up getting laughed off the stage.

This kind of belief is based in fear and a flawed view of reality. Why? Because it’s literally impossible for you to have lived several decades or more on this planet and not have learned anything of use!

So let’s assume you do have something to teach, and we just need to get your mind on board so you can go help people. Good, or good?

Here are two strategies for overcoming the self-doubt and negative beliefs keeping you from sharing what you know, earning great money, and changing lives.

It doesn’t matter how much or how little you know–you can still get rich and help people as a trainer.
1. Know Your “Why”, and Make Sure It’s POWERFUL

One of the best ways to counteract these mindset issues is to shift your focus to something more positive.

That something should be your “Why.” Why do you want to become a trainer? And not just in general terms like getting more money and respect– what specifically is driving this desire FOR YOU?

If you were watching a movie of your ideal fantasy life as a wealthy, successful trainer, what would you be seeing?

Are you sitting at a table with a line of dozens of people waiting to come up and meet you and get your autograph?

Are you standing on a stage in a large ballroom, or even a stadium, receiving applause from hundreds or thousands of people?

Are you sitting in a first-class airline seat enjoying your favorite cocktail and admiring the view out the window?

Are you reading a hand-written letter of thanks from someone whose life you’ve transformed?

These are just a few ideas to get your mind working. The important thing is to know what motivates you. What is it that you want to experience and accomplish? What gets you excited and inspired about teaching others?

It shouldn’t be something that sounds “nice.” When you imagine having or experiencing it, you should feel a powerful surge of emotional energy–excited, inspired, eager!

When you’re strongly motivated and laser-focused on your “Why,” you can accomplish anything, even if you don’t know how you’ll do it. You’ll find a way.

Take a minute right now to think about your Why’s and write them down. What would be the best thing/s about being a successful trainer? Why are they so meaningful to you?

Remember to be specific and paint a picture, so you can call that image to mind as a powerful motivator.

Remember to be specific and paint a picture, so you can call that image to mind as a powerful motivator.

2. Recognize The Value Of Your Knowledge

We’ve already decided that you know SOMETHING of value to teach others, simply by virtue of being alive. But if self-doubt is running your mind, you might think there’s nothing special or valuable about what you know.

But, you are unique. You have a unique perspective. Others may know some of the things you know, but they don’t know them the way you know them. And they certainly can’t teach them the way you can. Why? Because they’re not you!

You have to uncover the value of your unique understanding. Let’s look at a few ways to do this:

1. Ask yourself reflective questions. It’s easy to stay so caught up in living your life that you don’t even realize what you’ve accomplished, or how you did it. Taking time to reflect can uncover a treasure trove of priceless knowledge.
  • What lessons or insights have made a difference in your life or work?
  • What advice or support have you given to others?
  • What tricks or hacks have you developed to get things done faster or easier?
  • What obstacles have you overcome, and how did you do it?
Odds are, any information that’s helped you improve your life can also help someone else.

2. Get other people to show you the value of your knowledge. Ask friends or colleagues what they appreciate about you or what traits and skills they admire in you. And get them to ask you questions about how you do the things you’re good at, or how you got the skills you now possess.

You might be surprised how much more others value you, more than you do yourself!

3. Remember that your expertise is relative to your audience. You might think others know more than you, and it’s true. No matter how much you know or how good you get at something, there’s always someone better.

But there are also a whole lot of people who know less than you!

For example, you could be a skilled project manager, but you might not think you have anything of value to share with other project managers. But maybe to a small business owner struggling to keep their operations together, your simplest tips would sound genius. You may even save them from going under!

4. Help others recognize the value of what they know. Even if people have learned similar things to you, they might have forgotten. Or they might not be acting on that knowledge. Or they might not realize how important it is. Helping people tap into the power of what they already know can be even more valuable than teaching them something new!

So make sure you know your WHY and you know your WORTH. And remember, you don’t have to be perfect or all-knowing. To be a great trainer, it’s much more important to be authentic and natural.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you just wing it. There’s an art and a science to turning your knowledge and expertise into a successful training.
