“This is a major breakthrough for both SuperVision Optimax and Malaysia, to have the first Malaysian contact lens exported to Japan. PMDA is one of the most stringent clinical evaluations in the world,” Supermax said

PETALING JAYA: Supermax Corp Bhd  has been granted a product licence to export the first Malaysian brand of contact lenses to Japan.

In a statement yesterday, the glovemaker said its 70%-owned Japan-based subsidiary, Aime Supermax KK, had received a formal notification that Aime KK of Japan (100% owned by Aime Supermax KK), had been granted the product licence for its contact lenses by the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Authority (PMDA) of Japan.

“The product licence effectively enables the Supermax Group via SuperVision Optimax Sdn Bhd to export the first Malaysian brand contact lenses to Japan, one of the world’s largest markets for contact lenses.

“This is a major breakthrough for both SuperVision Optimax and Malaysia, to have the first Malaysian contact lens exported to Japan. PMDA is one of the most stringent clinical evaluations in the world,” Supermax said.

The glovemaker added that SuperVision Optimax, which is 98%-owned by Supermax International Sdn Bhd (which in turn is wholly owned by Supermax), had undergone an extensive clinical evaluation process.

Supermax’s net profit for the third quarter ended March 31 improved to RM34.09mil from RM19.3mil a year earlier, as revenue increased 6.1% to RM327.07mil.

The company said earnings during the quarter were bolstered by contributions from the global sales of natural rubber and nitrile rubber gloves. On its prospects, Supermax said it planned to invest RM333mil over the next two years to increase total annual installed capacity to 27.2 billion pieces.
