Yau set to helm Dijaya

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Yau Kok Seng, the current group managing director (MD) of Hong Leong Industries Bhd (HLI), will be replacingDatuk Tong Kien Onn, the current MD of Dijaya Corp Bhd, effective Jan 2, 2013, as its new chief, according to sources.
On Nov 29, HLI made an announcement to Bursa Malaysia on the resignation of Yau from the company. The reason stated was to “pursue other career opportunities,”
It is understood that Yau, 52, will hold the title of chief executive officer in Dijaya. He will report to Dijaya's founder and major shareholder, Tan Sri Danny Tan Chee Sing, who is the younger brother of the high-profileTan Sri Vincent Tan, founder of the Berjaya group.
Danny currently holds the position of group CEO in Dijaya, but will be redesignated to executive chairman once Yau comes on board.
Initially it was understood that Tong, 53, would be replaced by Dickson Tan Yong Loong, 31, who is currently the deputy managing director of Dijaya. With Yau coming in, Dickson will still be redesignated to the group MD position, although he will be reporting to Yau. Dickson is the eldest son of Danny.
Tong, who had decided to take an optional retirement, has more than 25 years in the company. He was appointed to the board of Dijaya on Jan 18, 2002 and MD on May 10, 2007.
Meanwhile, Yau was MD of HLI for just over a year, as he only took up the position last September. HLI's activities include the manufacturing of semiconductors, motorcyles and ceramic tiles.
Yau was formerly the MD of Sunway Holdings Bhd, a position he had held since April 2001.
